The invention relates to a building with a gallery on one outer side, which is delimited by a ceiling and a parapet. The gallery comprises window frames which are fitted between the upper side of the parapet and the ceiling and have bottom-hinged windows which can tilt about a horizontal pivot axis. Acting on the bottom-hinged windows are drive devices which can move the windows between a closed position and an open position. There is a control device for the drive devices, to which control device there is connected a fire or smoke sensor, the control device being designed such that it activates the drive means in order to move the bottom-hinged window into the open position when fire or smoke is detected.
