The adsorption and removal uses a hydrogenation treatment zone having a catalyst-filled layer for hydrogenation treatment, and an adsorption treatment zone having a porous carbon material-filled layer. The adsorption and removal comprises: (a) supplying a hydrocarbon fraction contg. traces of metals to the hydrogenation treatment zone; keeping the hydrocarbon fraction into contact with hydrogen under hydrogenation treatment conditions in the presence of a catalyst for the hydrogenation treatment; (b) supplying the resulting hydrocarbon fraction to the adsorption treatment zone; keeping the hydrocarbon fraction into contact with the porous carbon material.
