摘要
The invention refers to a variety of chicory (Cichorium intybus L. ssp. sativum), named Transilvania, obtained through the cross-breeding of three different diploid fertile families, recommended for cultivation in all pedoclimatic conditions favouring this culture in the country. From this variety both the roots are used, for industrial processing, and the leaves, for animal feed. This is the first chicory variety created in our country. Its shrub is rich in leaves, is of medium to tall height, and has semi-erect posture. The leaf limb is oval-lance-shaped, the leaf is dark-green in colour and is tall. The flowers are tubular, of blue colour. The fruit is an achene with 3-5 long edges of 2-3 mm. The weight of 1000 seeds is 1.5 ... 3 g. The root is white, oblong cone shaped, with superficial lateral ditches, and the colet is small, slightly raised above the ground. It is a variety with a mid to late season ripening, with a vegetation period of 160 days, highly tolerant to powdery mildew and with a low degree of sprouting during the first year of vegetation. The content in inulin is between 10 and 14.2 percent. It produces 45 ...50 t roots/ha, non-irrigated.
