PROCESSES FOR PREPARING MILLED GRAPHITE FIBERS

Disclosed is a process for preparing milled graphitefibers in which the amount of metallic components containedin the milled carbon fibers before graphitizing is limitedto not more than 100/1,000,000 in terms of a ratio byweight. Also disclosed is a process for preparing milledgraphite fibers in which the amount of metallic componentscontained in the milled carbon fibers before graphitizingexcept metallic components originally contained in thefibers themselves is limited to not more than 50/1,000,000in terms of a ratio by weight. According to theseprocesses, there can be obtained milled graphite fiberswhose surfaces are inert, which suffer few longitudinalcrackings and which are almost free from occurrence ofparticulate substances comprising agglomerated or bondedfibers.
