The fibre laser is pumped by an optical wave and is linearly polarised. The laser includes a birefractive optical fibre (F). At each end, this fibre has a photo-inscribed Bragg network (R1,R2). The optical fibre has a very high birefraction, greater than 10-4. The fibre provides two orthogonal modes of polarisation. The two Bragg networks are arranged such that sufficient separation is provided between the resonance peaks of the Bragg wavelengths corresponding to the two modes of polarisation. Preferably, the average Bragg wavelength of the two networks are calculated such that the Bragg wavelengths of the two networks only coincide for the same mode of polarisation. IMAGE
