Ink ribbon formed with different colored regions and distinction portion at border portion of each region

An ink ribbon (32) is serially coated by inks in the three primary colors. A distinction portion (504,501,507) is provided at each boundary portion between different colored inks. Each distinction portion is formed from two lines, one having a width common for all the distinction portions (502,505,508) and regardless of corresponding ink color and one set with a width peculiar to particular ink color(503,506,505). Because this decreases the region taken up by the distinction portion, the printable region on the ink ribbon can be increased.
