Position-controlled edging stand, positioned upstream of a finishing train for continuously cast strip material

The finishing section for continuously cast strip (2) is preceded by an upsetting roll stand (1) which has an adjustment mechanism (5, 6) governed by position control loops (11, 12). The roll stand has a pressure control loop (19) and a load limiting controller (20). The pressure control loop samples the pressure exerted by the roll stand at predetermined intervals, and adjusts the roll positions. The load limiting controller tests for excess forces on the rolls (3, 4) or excess loads on their drive motors and, if necessary, increases the roll gap and/or reduces the pressure of the adjustment mechanism (5, 6).
