The present invention relates to a novel chelate resin having a 2,2'-dihydroxyazobenzene moiety attached with improved binding ability of uranyl ions and a method for producing the same.;It is a novel method developed by the present invention to improve the uranyl ion binding ability by attaching a 2,2'-dihydroxyazobenzene moiety on a base resin which is insoluble in water and modifying its surrounding environment. In the present invention, a method of attaching ammonium ions to a base resin has been developed in order to enhance the ability to bind uranyl ions to a 2,2'-dihydroxyazobenzene moiety.;By thus improving the ability of the 2,2'-dihydroxyazobenzene moiety to bind uranil ions, it is possible to effectively extract uranil ions dissolved in water, particularly seawater. Passing seawater to the uranil ion extractant developed in the present invention, not only extracts uranil ions dissolved in seawater, but also vanadium, nickel, copper, lead, and manganese.
