Pseudomonas sp. 2,3-dihydroxybiphenyl dioxygenase isolated from P20 strain is an enzyme that degrades 4-chlorobiphenyl, an aromatic hardly degradable pollutant, and is isolated from other strains by determining the nucleotide sequence of the pcbC gene encoding it. It was observed that there is a selective system for the growth of chlorinated biphenyls that convert to chlorinated benzoates compared to a 2,3-dihydroxybiphenyl dioxygenase producing gene and the PcbC polypeptides generated as a result of encoding the pcbC gene By analyzing the amino acid sequence of and comparing the similarity with other strains, it was found that the fixed Gly-His at the active site plays an important role in the activity of 2,3-dihydroxybiphenyl deoxygenase.
