The device includes a transporting unit (12) for moving the packaging container. A lifting rod (17) lifts individual containers form the transporting unit. A weighing unit determines the weight of each lifted container. The transporting unit is driven in a step-wise manner and includes pairs of cell walls (14), between which each container is received. The containers are filled packages, which are unsealed at the top (5). The weighing unit and the transporting unit are separate from each other. The weighing unit has holding members (22-25) for holding the tops of the packages.
