Process disposes of rubber (10), including rubber waste, and similar materials. It is cracked using high frequency electromagnetic waves (e.g. magnetron and waveguide (8, 9) into a gas and carbonaceous mixture (char). Preferably, the gas is used for energy recovery. Irradiation takes place in a Faraday cage (including base grid, 11).
