The ball valve has shutter-type throttle element inserts (40,41). The first element is located on one side of the shut-off device (20) in the opening area of the passage (21), the second one is located on the other side of the device within the flow path (14') of a first housing part (12'). Both elements have parallel teeth defining flow gaps and projecting into the flow path in rotary direction of the shut-off device. In partially open position of the device up to approx. 60 degrees , the teeth form flow dividers.
