The drive shaft (26) for the centrifuge wheel (30) is linked to at least one friction wheel (38) capable of being coupled into frictional contact with a trailing wheel (36) in the machine. Grit is discharged through an opening in the container base (16) whose size can be altered by blade, and then onto a horizontal centrifuge wheel positioned beneath the opening.
