With a limitation of the functional readiness of a brake device by breakdown or impairment of the current supply from the electrochemical energy store, the electric motor support of the brake device generates a distinctive change of the mechanical positioning or return behavior of the brake device. The signal for detection of the limited functional readiness of a brake device is determined by measuring the charge state or the degree of availability of the electrochemical store. With limited functional readiness of the electric motor-supported steering installation, a vibration or jolting of the steering wheel is generated.
