The method involves automatically detecting current readiness of a rider of a vehicle (10) i.e. motor car, for operating brake pedals (4). Response time of the rider for operating the brake pedals is automatically determined based on the detected current readiness of the rider. A position of a brake foot of the rider on the brake pedals is automatically detected using a camera or an optical sensor such that the rider operates the brake pedals by the brake foot. Pressure on accelerator pedals (5) of the vehicle and a position of the accelerator pedals are automatically detected. An independent claim is also included for an assistance system for a vehicle, comprising a pressure sensor.
