The device incorporates an excess pressure valve (2) with valve seat (12) and body (10) to seal a water pipe (9). The valve seat is positioned outside the water flow path, in a branch (7), which is in constant communication with the water pipe. The branch is mainly vertical, and the excess pressure valve is especially screwed to the pipe face away from the water pipe. The water pipe is part of tap unit especially of a cattle or horse drinking trough. The valve is formed to screw into a threaded bore of the tap.
