Apparatus for disposing of pointed metal needles (11)consists of two electrodes (9, 16) connected to a transformer (5) inside a protective hood (29). The needle is inserted through an opening (10) in the top electrode (9) and contacts the second electrode in order to form a closed electric circuit. A low voltage current then melts the needle and the melted material is collected in a vessel (23) at the bottom of the arrangement.
