PURPOSE: To stabilize a continuous casting operation by interposing a heat insulating packing between connecting bosses for connecting a reinforced rigid body and a metal case and connecting and fixing the reinforced rigid body and the metal case with fastening bolts and nuts. ;CONSTITUTION: A side weir 9 is constituted of the metal case 10, monolithic refractory 11 housed in the case, a base member 12 provided in this case, a Y shaped ceramic wear plate 13 provided so as to be slidable with the end surfaces of cooling drums Ra, Rb in the base member 12, a heater 14 embedded in the base plate 12 and a lower weir 15. The reinforced rigid body 16 is fastened to the bottom plate 10a of the metal case 10 by the fastening bolts and nuts 18 through the connecting boss 17. A heat insulating sheet 22 is laminated on the surface of the reinforced rigid body 16 at the mold case 10 side, and the heat insulating packing 23 is interposed between the connecting bosses 17 for connecting the reinforced rigid body 16 and the metal case 10.
