PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detector for the temperature of the field winding of an electric rotating machine which is capable of favorably measuring the temperature of the field winding of a rotor without adding a mechanical or electrical connection to the rotor. ;SOLUTION: Making good use of the fact that the field magnetic flux density of a main machine 1 is a parameter in proportion to an exciting current supplied to the field winding 3a, the fixed side, of a revolving armature-type exciter 3 and further in inverse proportion to the resistance of the field winding 1a of the revolving filed-type main machine 1, the exciting current supplied to the field winding 3a, the fixed side, of the exciter 3 in operation is measured.
