PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely detect a pattern irrespective of colors of a reflection area of the surface of handicraft and an angle of inclination of an edge.;SOLUTION: First and second illuminated images G1, G2 of the pattern D to be detected are picked up under two pieces of illumination 3, 4 by a TV camera 6, a first calculated image G3 is calculated by dividing the first illuminated image G1 by the second illuminated image G2 and stored in a calculated image storage part 10, a second calculated image G4 is calculated by performing a binarization processing to define the pattern D to be detected as white when it is equal to or higher than a threshold C corresponding to the angle of the inclination of the pattern D to be detected as black when it is lower than the threshold C for each pixel of the first calculated image G3 and only image of the pattern D is extracted as white in a pattern extracting device 1 of the handicraft by this pattern extracting method.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
