PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a cerium-zirconium multiple oxide having high oxygen- absorption-desorption performance at low temp. region of ≤400°C even after being oxidized and reduced at 1,000°C in air and to provide a method for producing the same. ;SOLUTION: The cerium-zirconium multiple oxide, whose surface is chemically etched, is obtained by halogenating the surface of cerium-zirconium multiple oxide, then forming gas phase complexes from the metal halide formed on the surface of the cerium-zirconium multiple oxide by using metal halides such as aluminum chloride or multi component metal halides containing these metal halides as complexing agents and subjecting the formed complexes to chemical gas phase transfer.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
