PURPOSE: To provide a data recording disk provided with a device and method for mapping around a skip sector, including both a defective sector and a spare sector. ;CONSTITUTION: A received logical block address is mapped through a table and translated to a correspondent physical block address. The 1st table includes the entry of virtual track for dividing an LBA sharing a high-order bit into groups. The 2nd table includes the entry of the skip sector. The high-order bit of the LBA is used for selecting the entry of the 1st table as an index to the 2nd table. The 2nd table is retrieved from an index point by using the low-order bit of the LBA in order to find the skip sector exceeding the LBA value. When such a skip sector is found the index of this skip sector in the 2nd table is added to the LBA, and a PBA is calculated and mapped to the positions of zone, cylinder, head and sector of the disk drive.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
