The present invention relates to a non-aqueous solvent for improving the optical properties of modified carbonaceous coatings, as well as modified products and process inks and coatings. Non-aqueous ink and coating compositions according to the invention comprise a modified carbon product consisting of a carbon atom having a linked, optionally substituted aromatic group. The invention also relates to modified carbon products consisting of carbon and an organic group attached to the carbon, the organic group of which is a) with an aromatic group and b) at least one of SO2 NR2 or SO2NR (COR), wherein R is hydrogen, optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted alkyl. - alkenyl, (C 2 -C 4) alkylene x R ', or an optionally substituted aryl; R'hydrogen, optionally substituted alkyl, alkenyl, alkanoyl or aroyl; and x is an integer from 1 to 40. The optical properties of non-aqueous inks and coatings can be improved with the modified carbon products. ŕ
