PROCESS FOR THE ENRICHMENT OF THE MINERAL CONTENT OF A DUCKWEED PLANT AND CONCENTRATED DUCKWEED PLANT EXTRACTS PRODUCED THEREBY

A process for the production of an extract product of a duckweed plant with enriched potassium content, comprising: (a) cultivating said plant in a soil-free growth medium; (b) introducing a source of potassium into a liquid component of said growth medium for uptake into said plant in an amount of about between 2u10-3M and 3.5 u 10-3M potassium; (c) grinding said plant to form a mashed product; and (d) separating liquid from said mashed product to form at least one concentrated extract product having a potassium content at least four times greater than the sodium content thereof.
