Process for the manufacture of negative electrodes for alkaline electric accumulators and an electrode obtained of the type comprising a porous substrate based on nickel or a nickel-plated material, which supports an active material based on an alloy of metal hydrides. It comprises, on the porous substrate, a conductive base made up of a binding agent and an electronic conductive compound and covered with a layer of metal hydride alloy as active material. A procedure for the manufacture and activation of said electrode is also described.
