The invention concerns a cosmetic composition to be applied on keratinous fibres, in particular hair and comprising at least a cellulose ester such as phthalate, acetophthalate or acetotrimellitate in a cosmetically acceptable medium. The invention also concerns a method for treating keratinous fibres using said composition and the use of said cellulose esters for formulating hair styling products such as lacquers, sprays or foams, as agent for coating keratinous fibres and in particular as maintaining and/or fixing agents for the hair, and/or as agent for improving hair resistance to humidity.
