Sealed container with tab and method of making it

A container (100) having a tab portion (24) comprises one or more detachable sealing units (20, 220) and a corresponding number of storage units (10). Each storage unit comprises an essentially planar shoulder portion (8) surrounding a recessed portion (9). Each sealing unit comprises: (a) a membrane layer (222) with a top surface and a bottom surface detachably adhered to shoulder portion (8), the top surface has a first portion and a second portion adjacent thereto; (b) a non-laminable layer (223) that does not laminate to said membrane layer (222), and (c) a tab stock (221) with a bonding surface suitable for bonding to said membrane layer (222) and to said non-laminable layer. The non-laminable layer (223) is situated above the first portion of the top surface of the membrane layer (222), and the tab stock (221) is bound to the second portion of the top surface of the membrane (222) and to the non-laminable layer (223), such that the non-laminable layer (223) and the tab stock (221) bound thereto form a tab portion (24).
