PURPOSE: A method and device for tracking position of a mobile station in a mobile communication system using a CDMA(Code Divided Multiple Access) mode is provided to calculate a position information of mobile station by following a request and to calculate position information of mobile station using phase delay of received tone signals came from near base stations and position information of each base station. CONSTITUTION: An absolute system time acquisition and maintenance part obtains and keeps(910) absolute system time. A position tracking control unit receives and saves(920) single tone list message and checks(930) the request of position tracking from control part. If the request is not offered, the position tracking control unit doesn't send(940) measurement request signal. If the request is offered, a phase detector and remover of single tone measures(950) phase difference between tone signal of a first base station and tone signal of a n-th base station and generates phase difference information under the control of position tracking control unit. A position calculator of mobile station calculates(960) position information of mobile station using the phase difference information of base station in the single tone list message. The position information of mobile station is saved the position tracking control unit. The position tracking control unit examines(970) whether the request message of position information is received from a service base station. After receiving the request message, the position tracking control unit sends(980) the position information message of mobile station to the service base station.
