The rubber elastic or partially elastic profile seal (3), for the vertical edge of a sliding door and the like, has a base for mounting in place and a number of sealing projections (23) aligned along the door closing direction, in an asymmetric array in relation to the longitudinal center plane of the seal. A grooved water stripping zone (27,31,39) is at the transit between the sealing shoulders (17-17) and the sealing projection (23) and/or at the transit between the sealing shoulders (17-17) and the set-back valley zone (29) in the closing direction and/or in the sealing valley zone (29). The water stripping zones (27,31,39) lie along the longitudinal line of the sealing profile, set back against the door closing direction. A water back-up rib (37) is between the stripping zones.
