The acoustic damping at the rail mounting, for a railway permanent way, has elastic dampers (11,12) of an elastomer (9) in the spaces between the sole plate (6) and the support surface (32) of the sleeper under the rail (2) and outside the rail, with a smaller space (13) outside the rail. The dimensions of the second space (13) are set so that the gap between the sole plate (6) and the sleeper support surface (32) increases along the line away from the track. The thickness (14) of the damper (12) in the second space (13) increases along the line away from the track, or is constant. A hard plastics plate (7) lies directly under the rail (2) over the sole plate (6).
