Weld quality checking equipment controls a welding machine in accordance with a comparison between the weld region surface temperature and a reference temperature. Weld quality checking equipment comprises a temperature measuring device (14) for measuring the weld region surface temperature, a comparison device (17) for determining whether the measured value is higher than a reference temperature value and a control device (18) for controlling the welding machine according to the comparison result. Independent claims are also included for the following: (i) similar weld quality checking equipment for a cutting machine, in which temperature measurement is replaced by detection of workpiece color and/or brightness or of the color change of a temperature sensitive paint; and (ii) a welding machine provided with the above weld quality checking equipment.
