The choke coil has a magnetic core made up of two weakly magnetic materials of different permeability and saturation induction. A ring shaped disk (4,5) is placed on at least one end of a ring core (1). The latter is formed of a stack of disks or from a wound strip of weakly magnetic material. The ring shaped disk (4,5) is made up of compressed flakes of amorphous or nanocrystalline alloys with addition of plastic binder. A ring shaped disk of compressed flakes may be fixed to each end of the ring core (3) of weakly magnetic material. The choke coil may be connected in series with a load and a control device operating according to the phase splitting process. The flakes may be arranged in the disk such that the length of the flakes runs in the direction of the flux.
