Catalyst for the hydroconversion of hydrocarbons petroleum feeds consists of a zeolite chosen from NU-85, NU-86, NU-87, optionally at least an element chosen from group VIB and group VIII, optionally at least an element from P, B, Si, and optionally an element from group VII A. An Independent claim is also included for the preparation of the catalyst carried out as follows: (a) drying and weighing of a zeolite matrix chosen from NU-85, NU-86, NU-87, optionally at least an element from group VIB and group VIII, optionally at least an element from P, B and Si, optionally at least an element from group VIIA; (b) calcining of the resulting solid from step (a) at a temperature of at least 150 deg.C; (c) impregnating the precursor solid defined in (b) by a solution of at least an element of group VB; (d) allowing the wet solid to relax under a wet atmosphere at a temperature 10-120 deg.C; (e) drying the wet solid obtained in step (b) at a temperature 60-150 deg.C The catalyst is sulfurated under a flux of a mixture of H2/H2S or under pure H2S, at a temperature 150-800 deg.C.
