The water heater has a central vertical cylinder (7) with the electric heating element (8) at its base. The top of the cylinder is part-closed by a plate (3) which reduces the section available for hot water to leave, increasing water velocity and circulation in the water tank (1). A deflector plate (2) above the top of the cylinder diverts emerging water downward, increasing circulation.
