Optical impact generator has a laser source transmitting a laser beam towards three layers. The first layer (5) is a plasma generator, the second layer (4) provides isolation and the third layer (3) forms a projectile for impacting. The first layer has a low reflection to the beam from the laser source. The impact unit can be encased and is miniature.
