A diagnostic composition (A) for detecting breast cancer comprising as a cellular marker, a protein (I) that has - 40% homology (at the amino acid level) with SRBP (sigma1 receptor binding protein) and/or a protein (II) that has - 40% analogy with HSI (human sterol isomerase), is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a diagnostic composition (A') containing antibodies specific for (I) and/or (II); (2) a diagnostic kit containing - 1 of (A) and (A'); (3) a method for detecting a protein (III) associated with breast cancer; and (4) a method for detecting an antibody (Ab) associated with breast cancer.
