PURPOSE: To stabilize the quality of an article to be cut irrespective of the individual skill of an operator by providing conductive objective contacts fitted to a torch body, and an arc power supply between a discharge electrode and the conductive objective contacts. ;CONSTITUTION: Objective contacts 30a, 30b to be supported by a torch body 1 are conductive, and electrically connected to one pole of a main arc power supply. The distance between a nozzle tip and a work 2 is determined and the main arc power supply is electrically connected to the work 2 by pressing the objective contacts 30a, 30b against the work 2 by an operator toward the part to be cut of the work 2 with the torch in the cutting position so as to be brought into contact therewith. When the cutting is started in this condition, the cutting of the plasma arc transition type is realized. The work 2 is connected to the main arc power supply in the vicinity of a tip through the objective contacts 30a, 30b, and attenuation of the power supply or the heat loss is small. The base metal cable need not be attached/detached, and the working efficiency is improved.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
