PURPOSE: To enable daylight field and dark field of an external scene by introducing an image that is given by an image generator in the form of overlapping it on the visual field of an observer. ;CONSTITUTION: An image that is given by a light-intensifying device 6 of a night observation optical system is processed in the same way with an image that is given by an image generator 1. This processing is performed by an auxiliary image-combining optical system which mixes two images before the two images reach a main image-combining optical system 3 of an optical device, through which an observer directly sees an external scene in a dark field. The auxiliary image-combining optical system is designed, so that at least most of light from the image generator can reach the main image-combining optical system in a dark field. This result is acquired by using a semi-reflecting mirror 7 that enables lead-in or a semi-reflecting surface that is selective about a frequency in accordance with implementation.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO
