PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wire vibration type wire bonding method and apparatus, whereby the vibration efficiency of the ultrasonic power is high and the vibration power is delicately adjustable. SOLUTION: A gold wire (material) vibration type wire bonding apparatus comprises a sensor (detecting means) 6 for detecting a gold wire 1 contacting a pad 2, a means for feeding the gold wire 1 with a power upon receipt of an output signal generated when the sensor 6 detects the contact, and a permanent magnet (magnetic field generating means) 4 for applying a magnetic field to the wire 1. The power feeding means comprises a signal generator 3 for generating a current of a specified frequency and a switch 7 for feeding the current from the generator 3 to the wire 1, upon receipt of an output signal from the sensor 6.
