PURPOSE: To obtain a new low toxic compound, excellent in safety and useful as a hypoxic cell radiosensitizer, etc., with hardly any accumulating properties. ;CONSTITUTION: The compound of formula I (R is H, acyl, alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, aralkyl or aryl), e.g. 1-(4-acetoxybutan-2-yn-1-yl)-2-nitroimidazole.
