PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a vibration type angular velocity sensor which is cheap and has high detection accuracy. ;SOLUTION: In the vibration type angular velocity sensor exciting a vibrator consisting of a thin cylinder with standing wave of 1st mode of radial vibration, detecting an output vibration component with different phase by 90 degrees from the standing wave caused by Coriolis force by impressing angular velocity in the direction around the axis line of the vibrator of the detection object, and measuring the input angular velocity with this output vibration component, a means for exciting the vibrator is constituted of an ultrasonic transmitter and is made a structure in which sound pressure emitted from the ultrasonic transmitter is impressed around the vibrator to excite it without mechanical contact with the vibrator.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
