PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material tester wide in application range capable of suitably corresponding not only to a material test in a wide strain speed region but also to a compression test and a tensile test. ;SOLUTION: A material tester 10 is equipped with a load applying block 14 having a sufficient size and mass and a measuring block 24, and also equipped with a load measuring means constituted by bonding strain gauges 28 to the columnar small projections 26 provided to the measuring block 12. This load measuring means can function as a load cell for well measuring static load or quasi-static load, and can also function as a force detection stand for accurately detecting dynamic load at a time of high speed deformation. The jig set for a tensile test has a structure for suitably applying the compression load due to the load applying block 14 to a test piece as tensile load, and can well perform a tensile test.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
