NEW OXETANESULFONIC ESTER, OXETANE-DERIVED NOVOLAK RESIN USING THE SAME AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a new compound capable of carrying out a photocationic polymerization and a thermal polymerization using an acidic catalyst and providing a resin useful for varnishes, etc.;SOLUTION: This compound is represented by the formula (R' is H or a 1-6C alkyl; M is a monovalent acidic group such as mesyl, tosyl or benzenesulfonyl), e.g. 3-ethyl-3-hydroxymethyloxetane-p-toluenesulfonate. Furthermore, the above compound is produced by dropping an aqueous solution of an alkali metal salt (e.g. an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide) at 30 wt.% concentration into a mixture comprising a 3-substituted-3-hydroxymethyloxetane (e.g. 3-ethyl-3-hydroxymethyloxetane), a sulfonyl chloride (e.g. methylsulfonyl chloride), a quaternary ammonium salt (e.g. a tetraalkylammonium salt) and a solvent (e.g. benzene) at a rate so that the temperature of the reactional mixture does not exceed 10°C.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
