PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF POLYMERS HAVING RECURRING SUCCINYL UNITS

A process for the preparation of a polymer having recurring succinyl units by reaction of A, an unsaturated C4-dicarboxylic acid or a derivative thereof, with B, a nitrogen-donating compound, in a first reaction step to give a reaction mixture comprising at least one low molecular weight reaction product of A and B and/or a prepolymer of A and B, and subsequent continuous feeding of the reaction mixture into a continuously operating reactor and treatment of the reaction mixture at a temperature of 120 to 350oC to give the polymer having recurring succinyl units and molecular weight MwL1300 in a second reaction step.
