A crane is used to lower the sinking piece (1) into the outer casing (2) which is to be filled with poured concrete. The sinking piece (1) has broad (4) and narrow channels (5) through it, separated by vertical bulkheads (8). When the concrete has been poured into the casing, a mechanical or hydraulic system runs along the top of the sinking piece operating vibrator mechanisms to stir' and thicken the concrete.
