We have developed 3 monoclonal mouse antibodies that specifically recognize the central area where the p53 protein coded by TP53 gene, which is one the genes that are most frequently mutated in human cancers, are specifically bound to the DNA. One of these antibodies (7D3) recognizes the epitopes in the amino-acid chains 211-220, the second (9E4) recognizes the epitopes in the amino-acid chains 281-290 and the third (6B10) recognizes the epitopes in the amino-acid chains 291-300. These antibodies can recognize normal and mutant human cells p53 proteins with ELISA, Western Blotting, immunofluorescence and immunoprecipitation methods. The antibodies subject to our invention have the potential of being used for cancer diagnosis, disease prognosis and patient follow-up purposes, in its natural form or after having been modified biologically, chemically or in any similar way.
