A deflection switch (Q1) of a horizontaldeflection circuit (250) is coupled to a retrace resonantcircuit (100) that includes a horizontal deflection winding(L[err]) and a first retrace capacitance (C[err]). A flybacktransformer primary winding (W1) is coupled at a junctionterminal (collector of Q1) of the deflection switch (Q1)and the retrace resonant circuit (100). A second winding(W[err]) of the transformer (T[err]) is coupled to an ultor voltagepower supply (556). To provide side pincushion correction,a second switch (Q2), having a conduction time that isphase modulated during horizontal retrace at a verticalrate in parabolic manner, is coupled between ground and aterminal (50) of the retrace resonant circuit (100) remotefrom the flyback transformer primary winding (W1). Thesecond switch (Q2) is conductive during the entire traceinterval and is turned-off at a controllable instant duringthe first half of the retrace interval. When the secondswitch (Q2) is nonconductive, a second retrace capacitance(C[err]) is interposed between the flyback transformer primarywinding (W[err]) and the retrace resonant circuit (100) toprevent load variation in the second winding (W[err]) of theflyback transformer (T[err]) from causing raster distortion.
