An apparatus for separation of solids from a mixture of solid and fluid, whichis suppliedtangentially into a box shaped separation chamber, and leaves horizontallythoughopening (s) on side walls of the chamber. The invention also provides novelmethods forconverting a flame fired boiler into a circulating fluidized bed boiler andfor building newcompact circulating fluidized bed boiler.
