A method and system using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology tosupport the issuance of targeted purchasing incentives to retail customers andsupporting marketing analysis. RFID technology is used to determine thecurrent purchase selections of a retail customer and targeted marketingincentives are given to the customer based on the current customer purchaseselections either alone or in combination with prior purchase history.Customer purchase selections can be determined at various points through outthe store and targeted incentives provided during the shopping visit. Thecurrent purchase selections can be optionally added to a data base for futureuse in selecting directed incentives or analyzing purchasing patterns tosupport development of marketing strategies. RFID technology, as well as othertechniques, may be used to identify the customer and allow the customer'sidentification to be stored into the purchasing database either in associationwith purchase selections or to record a customer's visit to the retailestablishment.
