Polymer-type agents for preventing the metastasis and recurrence of cancer, which are administered to sites frequently suffering from the metastasis of cancer (for example, body cavity or portal vein around a site with frequent metastasis) before, during or after surgery operations so as to prevent the metastasis of solid cancer into normal organs and recurrence, comprising an anticancer agent bonded to a polymer compound; and a method of preventing the metastasis and recurrence of cancer by using the same. These agents can be retained in an organ tissue in a normal part wherein recurrent or disseminated tumor cells are liable to take and thus exhibit an effect of killing infiltrating or disseminated tumor cells or tumor cells remaining after the operation. As these polymer-type agents for preventing cancer metastasis, neocarcinostatin derivatives bonded to styrene-maleic acid copolymer groups are particularly efficacious.
